Crawley Town manager John Gregory praised Billinghurst for doing a great job in staging last Friday’s friendly.
He was full of positive comments about the game which gave his new summer signings a chance to play with each other for the first time and also allowed him to run his eye over several trialists who are hoping to secure a deal with the League One club.
“It was just what we wanted. The players have been back eight or nine days on the training ground. Nothing is better than playing matches.
“We have had a very good turnout from Billingshurst and our fans have come down to see us – in fact many of them come from here, so it is a case of us going out to them rather than them coming over to us.
“Our hosts have been very hospitable towards us.
“We needed to mix it up so there were familiar boys in with the young kids and they helped them through it.
“I was delighted with everything that went on. All the trialists who came and played wore the shirt with pride which is what you are looking for.”
Billingshurst have been told Crawley are willing to return next season and the County League club are hoping it will signal the start of a positive relationship between the two clubs.
