DAVE Harris struck an early contender for goal of the season for Steyning as they shared the spoils with Loxwood on Tuesday.
His stunning volley after only 90 seconds put Steyning ahead, but Richard Whittington’s side were unable to hold on as Loxwood went on to dominate possesison and chances before levelling through Damon Aston.
“It was a fantastic volley and it gave us a lot of confidence to play some good football in the first half,” Whittington said.
Gareth Dutton made a good save to keep Barry Hunter’s Magpies out, and there were late chances at both ends after Aston had applied a neat finish to a six man move.
For Loxwood, who welcomed Ross and Duncan Hirschfield back in defence along with George Magnus, it was a much needed return to a more solid set up.
Hunter said: “It was no concidence that we were much more robust.
“Half of my team were playing their first game this season.”

STORRINGTON twice came from behind to earn a point at home to Rustington.
Luke Jearum and Richard Ayres bagged the goals as the Swans went sixth in Division 2 and joint boss James Baker was impressed. “ The team is showing great character at present and with players still to come back from injury we are looking to keep our good league form going for as long as possible.”
Rustington went in front when Jack Sunderland was allowed a free header to nod home. But after a change of formation, Storrington levelled when Jearum latched on to Ayres’ pass.
The visitors went in front again on the hour mark when Jason Wimbleton’s glancing header foud the top corner. An improving Storrington hiut back again though and when Ayres raced on to Dan Measom’s clever chipped pass, he lobbed a deft finish home.
