DAMON Aston scored the only goal of the game as Loxwood secured a shock 1-0 win over league leaders Lancing last night (Tuesday).
The striker netted a typically goal poacher’s winner from Istvan Gulyas’ pass mid-way through the second half in what was the hosts only effort on target.
The Magpies back four battled valiantly to restrict their free-scoring visitors to few clear-cut chances, although Lancing did have two decent penalty appeals turned down, one in stoppage time at the end of the 90 minutes.
The result made it two wins in a week for Barry Hunter’s Loxwood while it was only Lancing’s second defeat in the league all season and could put a dent in their seemingly unstoppable title charge.
Boss Hunter, whose side moved up to eighth, said: “We seem to have a bit of a run against Lancing at home, they’ve not ever picked a point up at this ground and we’re delighted, it’s a great result for us.
“You only need to win 1-0 and Damon’s very capable, he did that Saturday for us and we were nice and tight at the back and broke with real pace with Tony (Nwachukwu) and Damon, Hoytey (Matt Hoyte) as well so we can hurt teams.
“It was a good test for the young lads tonight because we’ve got a lot of young players in the team and it was fantastic to see them stand up to that (a physical Lancing side). There’s growing up to be done and I was very pleased with them.
“It’s been a very good week and long may it continue.”
