Loxwood FC manager Julian Miller admitted he was disappointed with his side’s fitness levels after Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Mile Oak.
The Magpies failed to capitalise on a dominant first half as they were held in their Division 2 opener, and faded in the heat during the second half.
Damon Aston applied the finish to a slick move involving Ben Bissett and Grant Miller to put the Magpies ahead on 37 minutes, with what was arguably the hardest chance of a whole host they created.
Mile Oak punished those missed opportunities when Aaron Ransom scored a scrappy 56th minute leveller, and it took two good Sam Smith saves to preserve the point.
Manager Julian Miller said: “We could have been four ahead.
“It was a hot days, it was the first game without the rolling subs you get in pre-season. In the last 15 minutes we were struggling a little bit with fitness. I thought we were up there, but it might be because of the heat.”
