New Crawley Down Gatwick manager John Maggs has signed 13 new players in a desperate bid to avoid relegation into the Sussex County League.

Maggs replaced Francis Vines who parted company with the club following a 10-0 defeat by leaders Peacehaven.

Maggs began by overseeing a nightmare 6-0 defeat at Redhill on Saturday.

He admitted: “We are not in a healthy position and we now need five wins in ten games. It looks like a lost cause.

“I have the best coach in Non-League football in Cliff Cant and have called in a few favours.”

The new players are: Tom Hughes (Rye), Baff Addae (Thamesmead), Jidi Maduako (Cray Wanderers), Carley Akehurst (Eastbourne Town), Akwase Fobi-Edusie (Horsham), Daniel Stuart (Holmesdale), Fope Coker (Southend), Wade Eason (Eastbourne Town), Alex Addai (Whitehawk), Tom Skelton (Sittingbourne), Stefan Hamilton (Watford), John Lansdale (ex-Worthing).

Charlie Slocombe and Steve Sargent are staying at the club.

This Saturday Down take on Faversham Town at the Haven Centre, kick-off 3pm.
