HORSHAM’S struggle of a season ended on a low note last night with a 1-0 defeat to Worthing in the Brighton Charity Cup final.
The Hornets were out battled by the Rebels, who claimed their first silverware in nine years thanks to Steve Matcalf’s late winner.
Manager John Maggs said: “It was a very poor cup final.
“I think Worthing showed more and they were up for it more than us. Whether that’s because of the uncertainty at the club I don’t know, but the players did not perform at all.
“It did not reflect our performances over the last five weeks.”
Metcalf headed home the winner in the 83rd minute when John Lansdale launched a long throw into the box.
