Horsham missed out on an opportunity to win their first win of the season when they let slip a 1-0 lead before losing 3-1 away to Eastbourne Town last night.

New signing Ryan Marriott made his first start in his second spell at the club and immediately looked impressive as he gave Hornets the lead in the 23rd minute when he received a cross from Tony Nwachukwu and fired a shot across the face of goal and into the bottom corner of the net.

Marriott threatened to extend the lead early in the second half with a powerful strike from the left which was blocked by the Town defence.

It look all looked a promising situation to deliver the travelling fans an early win until Eastbourne equalised in the 70th minute through Steve May, who headed in from a corner kick.

Horsham then suffered a disastrous 10-minute spell when they conceded three goals and seemed to lose their concentration in defence.

Nick Fogden gave Eastbourne the lead two minutes after their equaliser when he blasted a shot from close range following a goalmouth scramble.

All thoughts of taking anything from the game disappeared when Eastbourne scored a third goal in the 80th minute when Danny Curd smashed in a ball from 12 yards into the top of the net after being put through from a busy penalty area.
