Horsham boss Gary Charman has ‘a couple of names in mind’ in view of signing another defender to replace Junior Kaffo.
The player-manager is currently looking at two defenders with the aim of bring one into the Hornets side to replace the versatile Kaffo, who has joined Chatham.
Horsham currently have Tom Gilbert, Glen Woodburn and Charman himself as recognised centre-backs, but with Woodburn having a disjointed start to the season with injuries and Charman playing himself up front, he wants to add cover.
Kaffo had deputised both at the back, midfield and up top this season with his versatility a big loss.
Charman said: “Does it (Kaffo leaving) free up money? Yes, but only a little bit as I have got to get someone else to come into the squad. Junior was on more than most due to the travelling, but only a few quid - we are talking about a couple of bookings not a massive amount.
“I am looking at the position as one I have to fill. Obviously I can play there and Woody is a superb centre-back, but he has not really got going this year with injuries, work and suspensions so we have him to come back.
“I’d like another to come into the club, it’s something I am looking into and I have a couple of names in mind, but I don’t want to say anything until I have wangled that down to one.”
