DIVISION 1 football beckons for Henfield FC next season after they were crowned champions of the West Sussex Football League Division 2 North last night (Wednesday).
A 2-1 victory over Holbrook in wet and windly conditions, combined with Alfold’s 3-3 draw at Wisborough Green, handed Henfield the title with four league games of the season still to play.
Martyn Jepson put Henfield ahead on 13 minutes with a peach of a shot across goal and into the top corner.
They had to wait until the 80th minute to double their lead, Steve Scott heading in a Sam Witherden corner, and though Holbrook grabbed a goal back, Henfield saw the game out to make it an incredible ten straight wins.
With news filtering through that Wisborough Green had come from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with only remaining title rivals Alfold, it meant Henfield were able to celebrate securing the title with games to spare.
And they have the chance to cap a superb season by securing the double when they take on Capel in the Chichester Charity Cup at Arundel on May 7.
