FOREST School Year 10 football team are the toast of Sussex after lifting the County Cup.
Following an incredibly tough route to the final, with wins over Oathall, Warden Park, Felpham Community College and William Parker Sports College, Forest travelled to Lancing College on Tuesday March 20 to take on Dorothy Stringer School from Brighton in the final.
Zach Conniff-Broome proved Forest’s hero on the day by coming off the bench to net both of their goals in extra-time as the Horsham school triumphantly lifted the title.
Forest under-15 coach Mr Mike Wickham said: “I am incredibly proud of what the boys have achieved this year. They had a very tough draw and beat some excellent sides on the way to this success, none more so than Dorothy Stringer who were superb today.
“The boys really deserved this as they have trained and worked so hard this season. It also goes to show how successful sport is at Forest; our teams just go from strength to strength.
“What made this feat more impressive was the fact that throughout the tournament the Forest side avoided letting in a goal in open play – which demonstrates the quality the side possesses.”
In the final both sides produced some excellent football and the game was extremely close throughout, with neither side able to find the net as it finished 0-0 after 90 minutes.
In extra-time Forest began to assert their dominance, with the introduction of fresh legs leading to the opening goal as super sub Conniff-Broome finished neatly from Craig Goodsir’s corner.
With the management urging the side to defend their lead, the boys had other ideas and within two minutes Conniff-Broome secured the cup would be in Forest hands with a superbly grabbed second following a fantastic through ball from Goodsir.
Both teams congratulated each other on a great game before parents and supporters cheered as Forest captain Jack Manton lifted the County Cup.
