FOREST Football Club are set to withdraw from the Sussex County League after tending their resignation this morning.

The Tangerines have contacted Paul Beard, the league’s former chairman, to state their intention to drop out of Division 3 as of next season.

The move is believed to have stemmed from a failure to agree terms with landlords Roffey Sports and Social Club over the lease of their Spooners Road home pitch.

Last week Forest lost their manager after Dean Potter resigned, his reasons believed to be linked to today’s news, and it is not yet known if the club will continue under a different guise or fold completely.

Mr Beard said this morning: “I have just had news from Forest that they are withdrawing from the league because of problems with their landlords.

“The lease they were offered only covers next season and it looks like that lack of a guarantee is behind their decision.

“It’s a real shame because Forest were one of the founder members of Division 3 when it first started back in 1983.”
