A CROWD of more than 1,000 watched a Horsham Select XI lose 3-1 to a strong Brighton & Hove Albion outfit in John Maggs’ testimonial game last night.

Former players from Maggs’ 11 years as manager at Horsham turned out, with nine of the team who featured in the 2007 FA Cup Second Round tie against Swansea City.

Maggs, who left the club in May, described it an ‘emotional’ evening and thanked all those who attended, including friends from across Sussex football, while 1,122 fans swelled the gate at Worthing’s Woodside Road.

Carl Rook put Horsham in front early in the second half, before Inigo Calderon, George Parker and Craig Noone netted for the Seagulls.
