SAMMY Donnelly has stepped down as manager of Horsham YMCA to take over the reins at County League Division 1 rivals Ringmer.

Donnelly cited “pure footballing reasons” behind his decision to swap Gorings Mead for the Caburn with immediate effect, saying: “It was just too good an opportunity for me to say no to.”

His assistant manager Mark Hawthorne, pictured here with Donnelly this season, is believed to have been given the role for the rest of the campaign.

Donnelly takes over a Ringmer side third from bottom in Division 1, seven points above safety but with games in hand over second-bottom St Francis Rangers.

Horsham were due to host Worthing Utd at Gorings Mead tonight but the game has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Broadbridge Heath’s home match with Haywards Heath has also been called off.
