Dave Cocoracchio has had to pinch himself a few times since Saturday to check it wasn’t all a dream.
The Loxwood manager described their performance in the FA Vase as ‘incredible’ and at a level he could only dream of.
He said: “Sometimes it’s very difficult to put it into words. We spoke beforehand and knew it was going to be a tough ask. One of my players went into a bookmakers to find us at odds of 11/2 and them 1-2 on to win, so I did not need to do much of a team-talk in the dressing room from that point of view.
“The performance, was incredible. The level we played at was beyond my wildest dreams. The day was made better by the fact Ashford were the most gracious and hospitable side I have ever come across in football. The people watching the game said it was the best game they had seen at that level and I am very proud to have been part of it.
“It was just amazing and I think it’s testament that their manager said, that they can go out knowing they played well and lost to a team that deserved to win. Both teams were applauded off by everyone to a standing ovation.”
Cocoracchio added: “Special mention to 16-year-old Tom Summerfield. In most people’s eyes he was close to man of the match. It was exceptional for him to come in and play in an FA Vase game and to play at that age is excellent.”
