Broadbridge Heath FC is ‘geared up’ for County League Division 2 should the club be promoted as part of a shake-up of Sussex football.

County League officials are considering an increase of clubs from 20 to 22 in Division 1, and Loxwood and Broadbridge Heath could be affected. As only clubs with a sufficient ground grading can be accepted in the county’s top flight, Loxwood could benefit as their Plaistow Road home is considered good enough for Division 1, while the facilities at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre could see Steve Painter’s side earn a place in Division 2, even though neither side finished in the promotion places in their respective divisions.

And Heath boss Painter said that although they are not pinning their hopes on a return to Division 2, the club would be ready for it if the league decided to make the move.

He said: “We would like to go up. If we go up we are ready, we have had conversations about next season in both Division 3 and Division 2 and whether we would able to do it financially.

“The players, management and committee are geared up for it if it happens.

“But we are keeping our feet firmly on the ground for next season.”
