YM’s Vase run suffers ‘smash and grab’

YM were left to rue a hatful of missed chances as they crashed out of the FA Vase with a 1-0 defeat at home to Ardley Utd.
Visiting keeper Joe White made a number of point blanks saves with YM strikers Martin Smith and Elliott Romain guilty of spurning girl edge chances.
YM were well on top for the first half an hour but the Hellenic Football League visitors from Oxfordshire took the lead on 36 minutes when John Gardner’s scuffed shot beat keeper Simon Lockwood and crept inside the post.
YM continued to hammer at the door in the second half, Smith twice denied from close range by White when he should have levelled the scores, but Ardley continued to show attacking intent and striker Troy Bryan crashed a half volley onto the post.
Still YM boss Peter Buckland was left frustrated, calling the defeat a “classic smash and grab” as his side lost their fourth game on the trot in all competitions having previously gone ten games unbeaten.
YM will have to dust themselves down before hosting Hailsham Town in the league at Gorings Mead in a weeks time.
