YM keen to reach Amex final
Horsham YMCA manager Peter Bucklanda
Horsham YMCA are eyeing up a date at The Amex after starting their Sussex Senior Cup campaign this week.
Goals from Dean Cox and Scot Wason - both of whom played through the pain barrier - sealed a patched-up YM’s progress in a 2-0 win against Bexhill United on Tuesday night.
Cox gave YM the lead against their County League Division 2 opposition through a well executed set-piece and his bullet header proved unstoppable in the 11th minute.
YM doubled the advantage when a poor clearing header from Bexhill fell nicely, and he lashed home a cracking volley.
Bexhill hit back however, when Danny Turner netted despite appearing ‘at least ten yards offside’ on 34 minutes. YM were able to see out the rest of the game though without too many major scares.
And with the final of the competition played at Brighton & Hove Albion’s 27,000 capacity home ground
Buckland said: “The result was more important than the performance. We had a couple of players running on empty. We are becoming victims of our own success, but I am not complaining.
“We fancy a day out at The Amex. There are big clubs in the competition but we don’t fear anyone really.”
