Plenty of reasons for cheer despite a first Heath league defeat
Steve Painter was far from downbeat in the wake of his Broadbridge Heath side’s first league defeat of the season.
Heath went down 3-2 at Newhaven, who were inspired by two-goal hero Lee Robinson, but for Painter there was still plenty of positives.
He said: “It was a good game, I think we were a bit unfortunate to be on the wrong end of the defeat. We played really well, had the lion’s share of possession but they were more clinical than us.
“I’m not disappointed with our performance, it’s a first of the season, we’ve come a long way from last year.”
Robinson gave The Dockers a seventh minute lead when he was sent racing clear but Gary Pritchard lobbed Heath back level. Newhaven’s keeper escaped without punishment for clattering Pritchard as he found the net and goals from Mark Probert and a second for Robinson put the hosts 3-1 up after half-time.
Michael Wood had hit the bar in the first 45 minutes and Wood gave his side hope with a volley, but Heath chances thereafter didn’t yield an equaliser.
Painter added: “Robinson’s the best player we’ve come against, he gave young Stuart Chester a tough time but he’ll do that to a lot of left backs in this league.”
