Injured Swans are downed by Oak in the cup

A Storrington team carrying injuries and illness were knocked out of the Division 2 Cup away at Mile Oak on Saturday.

With Liam Humphreys, Luke Jearum, Adam Bardouleau and Guy Church all playing through injuries and striker Marcus Robertshaw starting despite illness, progression was always tough.

With the wind at their backs the visitors enjoyed plenty of first half possession but could not find the net, while largely containing the hosts in a goalless first 45 minutes.

Oak made the perfect start to the second half when Rickie Mitchell headed past Matt Chester in goal.

Storrington felt they should have had a penalty when Robertshaw seemed to be brought down, but the referee waved away the appeals and that was the striker’s last involvement as his illness took its toll.

With the wind and rain playing a big part, Paul Easton then scored Oak’s second from a corner which Swans felt should never have been given, and more controversy was to follow when Lewis Levoi headed just past Oak’s keeper, who clattered him in the process but got away without punishment.

Levoi came off injured, quickly followed by Chris Watton as Swans’ day got worse, and the misery was completed when Liam Garrard added a late third.

Swans boss Nigel Dyer said: “We must play better next week as we go to Loxwood back in league action.”

Swans: Chester, Davis, Rhodie, Jarvie, Watton (Elliott), Setchell, Jearum, Humphreys, Bridle, Levoi (Church), Robertshaw (Barouleau).
