Horsham manager disappointed to lose New Year’s Day derby
Horsham FC manager Simon Colbran said neither side shone in the 4-1 defeat to Crawley Down Gatwick in the Ryman League on New Year’s Day.
On the back of wins against Worthing and Tooting over the Christmas period, Colbran’s Hornets were full of confidence when they came up against former manager John Maggs and his play-off challengers. But a fourth game inside ten days proved one too many for the hosts, as goals from Jamie Cade, Luke Blewden and Gaby Odunaike (two) meant Aaron Scott’s debut goal was just a consolation for Horsham.
Colbran said: “We just didn’t deserve anything from the game. We have been excellent in the last two games and it is disppointing we have dropped from that level, but we did. When you lose at home by that result it does knock the stuffing out of you.
“Crawley Down were not as good as I had expected and were there for the taking. We just didn’t turn up. If we had been as sharp as we’d have been in the last two games we’d be going in at half-time 4-0 up. No-one took the game by the scruff of its neck.”
