Horsham beaten on the road again

Horsham’s away day blues continued at Hythe Town last night (Tuesday) as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat.

Dave Cook’s 26th minute goal was the difference on the night, although the hosts would have run out far more convincing winners had it not been for the heroics of Hornets stopper Michael Hunter, who produced a string of super stops throughout the 90 minutes.

A Gary Charman header in the first half was about Horsham’s only effort on target all night, and the disappointing defeat sees Horsham slip to 18th in Ryman South, on equal points with bottom club Tooting & Mitcham in what remains an extremely tight division.

Player/assistant manager Charman, leading the team with Simon Colbran abroad, said: “It wasn’t a close game to be honest, we were poor, very very poor and if it hadn’t been for our goalkeeper the scoreline would have been a lot worse than it was.

“Michael Hunter was absolutely superb, only him and (defender) Matt Simpson played well, every other player just wasn’t good enough.”

Horsham have lost five of six away games in the league this season, taking just a point with the 2-2 draw at Whistable so far, and Charman admitted something needed to change quickly.

There is no game this Saturday so Horsham’s next game is at Home to Ramsgate next Tuesday (October 30).
