Striker Evan Archibald has returned to Horsham Football Club after being tempted by manager Simon Colbran’s vision for the future.

With the prospect of a new ground at Hop Oast moving tantalisingly closer, Archibald - who had a spell with the Hornets in 2008/09 - said it was a combination of a potentially bright future and Colbran’s passion which brought him to Gorings Mead.

Archibald, who counts Eastbourne Borough, Lewes and Worthing among his former clubs, scored ten goals in his first spell, before leaving to play football in Finland.

He said: “I’m excited about it.

“I know Horsham didn’t have the greatest of starts, but they have had a good couple of weeks and it is looking promising.

“I know Simon from my Worthing days, and I know what he wants from his players, I am excited. I spoke to Simon and he said he was keen to get me on board.

“He was talking about big plans, investment and a new stadium in a few years, and that he was looking for a striker.”

After completing pre-season with Eastbourne, Archibald found first time opportunities limited - and was happy to answer Colbran’s call as Horsham searched for a target man up front.

Gary Charman, Wayne Clarke, Reggie Savage, Kery Kedze and Darren Lok have all played alongside number nine Billy Medlock, who has six goals this season. The manager said: “I have known Evan for a long time, and we have been looking for someone like him since the start of the season. “We have tried a few and I know what I am going to get. He is good in the air and holds the ball up well, he is a 100 per cent committed, he trains well and his attitude is brilliant

“I think he and Billy can really work well together.

“Billy has really picked up his game, when we were asking the questionss, everyone picked up their game, Billy is doing what he needs to be doing, that’s scoring goals.”

Meanwhile, Colbran was happy with the Ryman League Cup display as a side boasting four changes beat Walton & Hersham 2-1 on Tuesday. He added: “It is a better squad now.”
