Billinghurst make it eight wins on the spin to keep pace with league leaders

Second half strikes from Darren Annis and Nick Tilley saw Billingshurst extend their winning run to eight in all competitions with a 2-0 victory over Clymping.

Hosts Hurst had the best chance of a goalless first 45 minutes, but from Nathan Stepney’s cross Paul Elliott got his feet in a muddle at the back post with the goal gaping.

Billingshurst boss Mark Betts brought on Jay Carse and Jamie Groves on the hour and five minutes later Carse was involved in the opening goal. From his ball forward Tilley challenged the Clymping keeper, who could only clear to Annis and from 16 yards out the striker expertly volleyed in.

And late on Groves picked out the run of Elliott, who was hauled down inside the area, and Tilley smashed home the resulting penalty with aplomb to secure the points.

Sidlesham still lead the way but Hurst remain four points behind with a game in hand. “Sidlesham were promoted with us last season so it paints the West Sussex League in a good light,” said Betts, who also praised the performance of Ollie Lambkin at centre back.

Hurst: Betts; Geary (Buckwell 75), Proto, Lambkin, Simmons (Groves 60); Stepney, Tilley, Feast, Lewis (Carse 60); Annis, Elliott.
