Archibald brace earns Horsham a point at Merstham

Simon Colbran praised the character of his side after they twice came from behind to earn a point at Merstham last night (Tuesday).

Evan Archibald scored both the Hornets goals – his first since returning to the club – to reply to strikes from Fabio Saraiva and Liam Wright as Colbran’s side showed good fight to draw 2-2 and make it four points from their last two games.

“It was important we set our stalls out not to lose the game, that’s what we’ve done and anything extra out of it would have been a bonus,” Colbran said after setting his side up in a 4-5-1 formation.

“We’ve come here not to lose this game of football and that’s how we’ve got to look at games away from home.

“I said to them in there, the last two games we’ve grown massively for different reasons.

“On Saturday we went 1-0 up, then 2-0 up and slowed the game right down at times, but today when we went 1-0 down we didn’t throw in the towel as we’ve done before away from home.”

Colbran also praised the return of Scott Harris to the middle of Horsham’s midfield as “massive”, and said his return from a long term injury two weeks early was largely down to the brilliant work of injury specialist Andi Marfleet.

Horsham stay 18th, but now have a four-point cushion between them and the bottom two, although the night was soured slightly by a knee injury to Wayne Clarke which further compounds a lack of options on the wings.
