Crawley Town have ‘No chance’ of getting star striker Rhys Murphy back on loan according to manager Mark Yates.

The striker scored nine goals in 15 starts during three months at the Checkatrade.com stadium.

However he has hit the ground running since his return to his parent club Oldham, scoring two goals to help them in their League 1 relegation battle.

Yates said: “We knew when we took Rhys Murphy that he was a good player, probably hadn’t had the opportunities that he would have liked up at Oldham previously.

“He came here, he had a few indifferent games but he was lively for us, he bought into what we were trying to do and he was a goal-threat for us.

“We’ve certainly kick-started his season for him, and he our’s as well.

“That’s the thing with loans, they are not your players and sometimes you are not the ones who totally benefit from it.

“He’s gone up there, scored two-in-two. Do I see Rhys Murphy coming back here? No chance.

“I think Rhys has ambitions to be a League 1 player and above.

“We have spoken to Oldham, we are speaking to Oldham but I am not sure there is a deal to be done at the moment.

“Sometimes you’ve just got to give people the chance. That’s the chance when you take loans.

“You want to polish them up and unearth something because if they do that are doing that they are doing well for your team and you are picking up points.

“It was a joy to have him around, a great lad and infectious both on and off the pitch.

“As much as I’d love to have him back, I just don’t see it happening.”
