Crawley Town manager Mark Yates heralded his side for a ‘magnificent’ display after they earned a fine away draw at Oxford.
He praised the great attitude in his squad to keep going in hot conditions in their opening game of the season.
The boys absolutely nailed it. They were brilliant and I commend them all from 1-17 in the group, they were magnificent.”Crawley Town manager Mark Yates
Yates said: “For the first game of the season I can ask no more of the players.
“There’s plenty more to come with things we are going to get better at.
“It was a really tough place to come and it was a typical first day of the season weather.
“We’ve absolutely worked our socks off. We switched off once from gameplan and were punished.
“The boys absolutely nailed it. They were brilliant and I commend them all from 1-17 in the group, they were magnificent.
“The attitude’s been brilliant. It has been a tough summer for the club, getting the right players in and I hold my hands up to the fact there isn’t enough at the minute.
“The group is the most honest group I’ve ever seen. They are workers and they are people who put a shift in.”
Yates praised his captain Sonny Bradley for volunteering to play out of position to fill the gap left waiting for the international clearance for new left back Bryan Van Den Bogaert.
“Sonny Bradley came up to me on Thursday, he knew I was threating about the left back position and volunteered unfair on Bobson Bawling and that somes the group up.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t see the game out which we deserved. We know we’ve got to be a bit more cutting-edge.
“We switched off for five minutes after Simon (Walton) was bandaged. We’ve limited Oxford to two or three chances all game, one was a 30-yarder and they are a team who are going to be at the top at the end of the season.
“We had four players making their Football League debuts today - it was a tought place to come and they were magnifient.
“The Crawley support was magnificent and think they go home happy that they saw players who had put in a shift for the team.”
