Crawley Town interim manager Dean Saunders has praised his side’s next opponents Crewe but is looking to notch up another victory in a key relegation battle.

Reds visit fellow strugglers Crewe on Good Friday armed with plenty of knowledge gained through Saunders having watched his 19-year-old son Callum who plays for the Railwaymen.

I know more about Crewe than I do any other team in Britain”

Saunders said: “This is a six-pointer. If Crewe win the game they’ve virtually done enough. If we beat them we go above them so it’s a crunch game.

“I know more about Crewe than I do any other team in Britain because I’ve watched them all season.

“They have got some good footballers there and they are brought up to play football. Technically they are all good. They bring the players through and sell them on, that’s how the club works.

“Dario Gradi has done a magnificent job (as technical director). The manager knows really his job is to get results and bring players through, and that’s what they have always done.

“They are relaxed. They play without any fear. They have a young team and they have brought some good strikers in. They’ve signed Uche Ikpeazu, Nicky Ajose and Marcus Haber.

“That made a difference to their results - they were struggling - but I’m sure Steve Davis is just trying to finish fifth from bottom really this year with the budget he has, it’s not the biggest.

“He is just trying to keep the team in the league and make them a bit more consistent because they can lose four or five and they can win four or five.”

Saunders revealed his players were frustrated at dropping three points against Gillingham on Saturday but stresses they can make up for it with a win at Crewe.

“Some of our players are a bit annoyed - if we had won on Saturday we would be in a really good position.

“We can get it back this week. You are not going to win every game so you have to make sure it doesn’t drift into the next game.”
