Albion boss Chris Hughton and striker Glenn Murray were in front of the press today, ahead of tomorrow’s home game with Nottingham Forest.
Here are five key points to come out of the press conference.
1: No hangover from last season. Hughton has been delighted with the start - a 0-0 draw at Derby and 4-0 League Cup victory against Colchester - and says a win tomorrow will cap an excellent first week of the season.
2: Team news. Dale Stephens returns to the squad having trained today but Connor Goldson is out and is likely to miss Tuesday’s game with Rotherham as well.
3: Forest threat. Under new head coach Philippe Montanier, Forest have won their opening two games of the season and Hughton said: “They’ve gone a little bit different (this season) because they’ve gone younger. At the back, they’ve got three new players, so it’s a transitional period for them as a club. Which way they’ll go, I don’t know.
“From a tactical point of view, we’ll reiterate to our team the things that we do well. Hopefully, if we’re able to impose ourselves on them, it will be a good night for us.”
4: Transfer window set for a manic finish. Hughton feels the transfer window should shut on the day the season starts but, with a change in the loan market, is expecting a busy end to August: “We will see a really manic last week of the window. It will possibly be a little bit more manic because clubs in our division and lower that rely a little bit on emergency loans are not able to do that, so from the Championship downwards there will be some permanent moves in that last week.”
5: Murray looking forward to Amex return. The striker will make his competitive Albion debut at the Amex and is eager to make the loan move a success. He says three points in front of a full house tomorrow will be a nice return.
