Sussex v Notts Day 1 morning session

ED JOYCE was the difference for Sussex as they ended the first session of play 120-3.

The England batsman compiled a very composed 63 after Sussex had lost three early wickets.

He and Carl Hopkinson added 44 for the fourth wicket after Chris Nash, skipper Mike Yardy and Murray Goodwin were dismissed in conditions which favouried the bowlers.

Notts skipper Chris Read won the toss and had no hesitation in putting the home side in.

FIFTY - Ed Joyce has been composed and looks the part today, bringing up his half century in 62 balls - including nine fours.

WICKET - Murray Goodwin has not been in the best of form during his benefit year with an average of 14, and Adams claims him for his second wicket rattling the timbers with a full, swinging ball.

Sussex 76-3

WICKET - Mike Yardy looked in good touch for his 22, but in swinging conditions, Andre Adams beats his defence to bowl the Sussex skipper.

Sussex 43-2

WICKET - Opener Chris Nash is bowled for four, two balls after despatching Charlie Shreck for a sumptuous cover drive.

Sussex 9-1
