Undefeated Sussex Sharks marched into the T20 quarter-finals with another fine display in beating Surrey on Tuesday night.

Having won the toss at the Kia Oval and inserted their hosts into bat, Horsham spinner Will Beer was one of several Sussex bowlers to impress, taking the wicket of England star Kevin Pietersen for eight.

Together with Mike Yardy and Chris Liddle, the bowlers tore into the host’s top order to reduce them to 46-4.

Zander de Bruyn’s unbeaten 30 helped Surrey to 106-6 when the persistent rain ended their innings after 16.2 overs.

Set a revised target of 109 for the win, Sussex needed just 12 of the 15 permitted overs to claim victory. Openers Chris Nash (22) and Luke Wright (32) set up the six-wicket win.

Sharks top their group by three points and face second-placed Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl on Friday knowing by avoiding defeat their quarter-final will be at Hove come the end of the month.
