Steyning skipper David Kennett is targeting two more wins in Division 4 to see his side crowned champions.
They secured a seven-wicket win with the only minor blip for the visitors being the stubborness of Rye’s last four wickets, as the hosts recovered from 53-6 to post 172-9 in 53 overs.
Owain Jones stole the show with the ball as he claimed an impressive 7-45.
Rye’s reasonable total didn’t worry Owain Jones, who scored a commanding 95 to see his team all but home as they knocked off the total with 176-3.
Steyning captain David Kennett said: “We won the toss on what was a very wet, green wicket. We took early wickets, had them at 53-6, so it was a bit frustrating not to get them all out in the end.
“The pitch dried out, and after about 30 overs it was a batsman’s dream really, it just went flat. It was hard work to get the remaining four wickets. Owain, again, was very good with the ball.”
