Steyning Cricket Club captain Ed Lamb has praised overseas bowler Matheesha Ranasinghe after the Sri Lankan’s match winning performance on Saturday.

Ranasinghe took 6-37 as Steyning beat Pagham by 52 runs in Division 3 West of the Sussex Cricket League, taking his tally for the season to 19 wickets.

And Steyning skipper Lamb said: “We now know we have a wicket-taker, and although he did not bowl too well against Middleton last week, most of the time he doesn’t go for too many runs, another plus is that he can bowl for a long time as he has a languid style.

“He has been really good from that perspective, we have not seen the best of him batting yet, but if he keeps on taking wickets that’s not a concern.”
