It’s getting tighter at the top of Division 1 as the main sides battle it out for the West Sussex Invitation League title and promotion into the Sussex League.

With three quarters of the season gone, Southwater remain in a strong position to achieve their dream of county league cricket, being just four points behind leaders Arundel with a game in hand.

The leaders achieved a winning draw at home to St Andrews, while Southwater won by 52 runs at East Preston; Alex Harding made a useful unbeaten 70 and Paul Osborne hit a half century.

Dan Skett and former Barns Green spinner Rob Schultz took three wickets each as EP were dismissed for 185 in the 44th over.

West Chilt, who achieved no points last week against leaders Arundel, put some of that right with a win away at Felbridge.

James Chaloner was back in the wickets with 4-28, before Tim Jarvis made 83 as the visitors got home with four wickets to spare.

Littlehampton squeaked home by two wickets at home to high flying Ram.

So while Arundel and Southwater fight it out at the top with Ram, St Andrews remain in trouble at the bottom with coastal sides East Preston and Clymping who had the week off last Saturday.
