CONGRATULATIONS to three young Roffey cricketers who have been selected for the Sussex CCC youth squads for the forthcoming season.

Josh Dance and Jamie Atkins have been named in the county Under-tens squad, while hot prospect Jordan Bell will play in the Under-13 squad for the 2012 season.

All three had to come through a rigorous set of trials and can now look forward to a busy summer of cricket for both Roffey and Sussex.

Player and coach Simon Shivnarain was delighted with the trio’s achievement. He said: “Josh is going to be a very good all rounder, he bowls at a good pace for his age and is a very technical batsmen, he is very much a mirror image of his dad who was also a all-rounder for Sussex all through his youth.

“I think Josh and Jamie will only get better now that their coaching will be more structured at the county.

“Jamie is a very similar player to Josh but has a slight height advantage so gets a bit more bounce when bowling which is a nice asset to have for someone his age. He is keen to open the batting and is very good on the front foot.

“Both boys are very keen sportsmen and have a genuine love for the sport and will hopefully rise up through the Sussex ranks in the future.”

And on Jordan Bell he said: “Jordan is a talented leg spinner which is very rare for someone his age as most boys want to be Freddy Flintoff!

“He also has the potential to be a very good opening batsmen as he is technically gifted and is starting to mature in mind to become an opener. I as a coach have very high hopes for Jordan and look forward to seeing him rise through the ranks at Sussex, he has also been netting with our adult first team and does not look out of place.”

The success follows first team fast bowler Stuart Whittingham’s recent call up to the Sussex Academy.
