Steyning suffered a 119-run defeat to home rivals Portslade in Division 3 on Saturday as they suffered a ‘poor’ day with the bat.
Portslade won the toss and chose to bat, with Joel Crook (67), Steven Case (48) and Glover (25*) helping their side reach 216-6 from their 53 overs.
Steyning found it tough going with the ball but Toby Glover took 3-52 for them.
Alex Smith ripped through the home side’s top order taking three wickets, before Paul Glover finished things off with figures of 5-10 as Steyning were skittled out for 97 in reply.
Smith dismissed the Steyning top three of Chris Barnett (13), Hywel Jones (nought) and Gary Hunt (five) to leave them struggling at 33-3. Oliver Collins struck 38 but that was as good as it got for Steyning, who failed to made triple figures in their chase.
Steyning stand-in skipper Jones said: “Our matches with Portslade are usually close but this one wasn’t.
“I felt we were on top for the first quarter but then they took control.
“Some quickfire late runs helped them boost their total and we were poor with the bat.”
