The opening round of fixtures in the Identilam Colts Indoor Cricket League produced a mixed bag for Horsham’s under-12s.
Up against defending champions Lindfield in the opening game of the season at Tanbridge House School, Horsham’s Adam Gocher, 34 not out and Tyler Shore, 15, made a bright start. But the rest of the Horsham batting line-up were unable to capitalise as Lindfield clawed their way back into the match, restricting Horsham to 88-5.
Batting, Lindfield looked in charge, but the third over put paid to that as two needless run-outs and a good catch held by Tom Haylor exposed the champions’ tail and they subsided to 44 all out.
Horsham’s second match of the night ended in defeat to Capel.
Some tight bowling restricted the Capel batting at first as they posted 99-5, despite an entertaining 23 not out from Charlie Edwards.
In reply, Horsham were unlucky when the hard hitting Adam Gocher twisted an ankle, but Harry Bradshaw came to the party with 19, before the limping Goacher added respectability to Horsham’s total of 74-5.
The night’s other game saw Capel post a formidable 116-2 against Lindfield, as Charlie Edwards 21, George Hebberd, 40, and Williams Edwards all retired. Dom Venn and George Hebberd then kept the Lindfield batsmen (77-4) in check.
