Hordsham went top of the Sussex Cricket League on Saturday, and captain Craig Gallagher has challenged his side to stay there.

The return of Sussex wicketkeeper Andrew Hodd to the Horsham line-up proved critical as Craig Gallagher’s wide went top.

Hodd, who has been forced to play second fiddle to Ben Brown for the County side this year, made a classy half century in his first Horsham appearance for three years as his side beat title rivals Preston Nomads by four wickets. A second wicket stand of 95 between Hodd and John Burroughs, who went on to make 61, put Gallagher’s men in a commanding position as they chased 229 for the win.

Gallagher said: “Gallagher added: “I think we have deserved to be there or thereabouts. We have gotten lucky with a couple of results and abandonments going our way, but fair play to the lads, we have dug in and got ourselves into this position.”
