ALEX Edwards has joined Sussex Cricket League new boys Wisborough Green to act as a player and head coach for the forthcoming season.

The former Sussex star, who also played first-class cricket for Derbyshire, will oversee both the junior and senior teams for the 2012 campaign.

“I am delighted to coach Wisborough Green Cricket Club, and be a part of a very vibrant, successful club who have some very ambitious plans,” Edwards said.

“Wisborough Green is a wonderful place to play cricket, and they have built up very strong junior and senior cricket.”

The capture of Edwards as head coach is being viewed as a major boost for the club, who host Slinfold at The Green this Saturday in their first ever Sussex League match following promotion last term.

James Sadler, head of senior cricket said: “We are delighted to welcome Alex to Wisborough Green to further his coaching career. He adds a lot of experience, and knowledge to our club.

“He will be working with senior and colts cricketers, assisting some senior colts who are already playing for Sussex, and help our players and coaches achieve greater cricketing success.”

“Alex has also agreed to join the club as a player, and this will give us extra strength heading into the county league.”
