Young all-rounder Louie Donnelly struck his first century for Horsham Trinity’s First XI in the West Sussex Invitation League on Saturday.

Opening the batting with skipper Angus Cox, the pair put on 183 for the first wicket in their Division 2 match against RAM.

Angus Cox hit 81 while Donnelly carried his bat to finish unbeaten on exactly 100. “It was a top knock,” Cox said. “Louie has been batting down the order and has only opened the batting for us in the last two weeks so it was a great effort, he’s a real prospect.”

Steve Cox added 33 as Trinity finished on 238-2 from 49 overs. “RAM bowled well, they slowed us down in the middle of our innings quite a bit and that probably meant we were 20 or 30 runs short,” Cox added. The visitors came storming out of the blocks in reply with Rakesh Patel (42) and Harshil Patel (41) wasting little time. Trinity stuck to their task and when wickets began to fall they were in with a real chance of victory.

But Deepak Bhasin’s 77 helped them to victory despite good bowling from Max Lee (1-37) and Matt Miles (2-60). “We can’t go up or down but if we can hold on to fourth we can call it a strong season,” Cox said.
