CRANLEIGH School is toasting a year of success across multiple sports.

2012 has started with a bang for the school, with 13 pupils gaining selection for the Surrey hockey squads. At under-17 level the players are Georgia Lord, Jonny Pike and Emily Robinson; at U16, Will Calnan and Charlie Thompson; at U15, Olivia Camsey, Weston Lord, Chloe Nicholls, Katie Robinson and Jennifer Vincent; and at U14, Megan Batchelor, Will Boddington and Charlotte Calnan.

Cranleigh School’s master in charge of hockey Rupert Kefford commented: “After our boys were National School champions at hockey last year, this further success shows that our international coaches Richard Organ and former Olympic medallist Steve Batchelor are inspiring the players.”

Other sport successes for Cranleigh include eight first XV Rugby players represented their county and Toby Quarendon, who left Cranleigh School in 2010, received an international call-up to play for Malta. A member of the Harlequins academy for many years, the young centre signed a full-time academy contract with Leeds Carnegie in 2010.

In cricket recent Old Boys Stuart Meaker (England) and both Seren Waters and Duncan Allen (Kenya) were selected for their countries. Plus, this winter Cranleigh School’s riders ran away with the National Schools Equestrian Association Dressage title.

Cranleigh’s head, Guy Waller, added: “We are, of course hugely proud of all these sports stars but we also take pride in the fact that on Saturdays we often have up to 40 teams competing against other school, giving an opportunity for competitive sport to every single pupil.”
