HORSHAM and Barns Green will represent Sussex on the national stage after both were crowned age group winners at last week’s county cup finals.
In the under-15s, Horsham saw off Preston Nomads in the finals at Sussex CCC youth headquarters at Blackstone, and at the same venue Barns Green under-13s retained their crown by beating Brighton.
Against Nomads, Eddie Wells shone as he retired after making his half century in Horsham’s total of 164. Wells then claimed figures of 4-4 to guide Horsham to a comfortable win.
And Barns Green made 111 against some tight Brighton bowling.
In reply, the spin of Hill (3-22) and Dibsdall (2-17) was complemented by some superb work behind the stumps by Bloodworth, as Green took the upper hand. Brighton required 14 off the final over, and then six off the final ball before some neat fielding from Ellie Monk made sure of the victory.
