Billingshurst remain 20 points behind leaders Middleton with two games to play in Division 3 West of the Sussex Cricket League, after a three wicket defeat of Arundel kept their title hope alive.
Upon winning the toss, Hurst captain Billy Harris stuck Arundel in, and with Dhanushka Mitipolaarachchi (3-21) and Ben Williams (3-24) in the wickets, Arundel were dismissed for 146.
But the Billingshurst reply started badly; Phillip Marshall was trapped LBW for one after Carleon Brome also departed cheaply.
Mitipolaarachchi came to the rescue with racked up 39 off 37 balls before Keelan Shoulders took four wickets including Mike Burroughs at 53.
Harris said: “He (Shoulders) bowled very well. Perhaps we switched off a little but he caused us problems for sure.”
Fortunately for Hurst, Pete Burroughs’ 48 not out helped them on their way to a “comfortable” victory.
Harris continued: “We batted very well. Mike and Pete have been up in the 50s most of the season and they were fantastic. It was very comfortable in the end.”
