A brilliant century from Billinghsurst all-rounder Dhanashka Mitipoaarachchi could not prevent Middleton’s march to the Sussex League Division 3 West crown.
Due to their rain-affected match against Littlehampton being reduced to T20 match rules, Hurst could only claim 16 points, not enough to keep them in the race. The Sri Lankan hit an unbeaten 104 as Billingshurst posted 210-3.
Andy Barr was then destroyer-in-chief with figures of 6-28 as Littlehampton were then dismissed in the 71 run win. Hurst’s Mike Burroughs said: “He (Mitipolaarachchi) played like it was just a net.
“We were disappointed that we couldn’t get a full game in as we were finished at 4.45pm. Unfortunately it literally handed the league to Middleton but it’s been a good season all in all and Middleton are deserving winners.”
