It was the skipper’s first big haul of the season and helped his side bowl the visitors out for just 110 on a good track.

Opening pair Stuart Barber and Scott Stratton then had no problem racing to the modest target in just 16.1 overs as Billingshurst completed their biggest victory of the campaign so far.

On a day when conditions were ideal, Williams did the opposite to most captains having won the toss by asking the opposition to have a bat first. He said: “I struck them in on a good track because we backed ourselves to chase whatever target they got. We were missing our main strike bowler Andy Barr so I thought we might struggle to bowl them out. I just wanted to keep the run rate down but we bowled brilliantly, especially Shane West. He’s had to be patient and wait for his chance but he got it on Saturday and grabbed it with both hands, he got rid of their two best batsmen.”

West ended with figures of 2-20 off his seven overs, while overseas ace Dhanushku Mitipolaarachichi bowled an extremely frugal 15 overs of off spin to take 2-12. “Dhanushka bowled extremely well, you just can’t get a run off the bloke. I credit my wickets to him, they couldn’t score off him so had to go after me. It was nice to contribute as captain,” said Williams after taking fine figures of 6-39.

Like West, Barber is also now impressing having also made the switch from neighbouring Pulborough. He struck 43 runs from 41 balls, and alongside the experience of fellow opener Stratton (62 runs from 57), they eased ‘Hurst to their third win of the season. Williams added: “Stuart and Scott were different gravy. They’re really starting to understand each other as an opening partnership, they made a decent Findon attack look average.”
