British champ Adrian looking to shine on European stage

New British Champion Adrian Haines is planning to make his mark on the European stage this weekend.

The Slinfold runner is competing in the European Masters Championships in Germany in the Vets45s, and buoyed by becoming British Outdoor Champion at 800m for the first the first time last month is confident he can make an impression. “Everything seems OK and I think I’m ready to challenge the Europeans as the calf injury seems clear now.

“The programme is 1,500 heats on Saturday at 7pm and if all goes well, it will be the final on Sunday at 12.10pm.

“I’m ranked at about number eight out of 40 competitors but I don’t take too much notice of rankings as they are times over the last two years and fitness can change a lot.”

Following two rest days Adrian has the 800m heats on Wednesday (5pm), and all being well the semi-final on Thursday (10.45am) ahead of Friday’s final (11.25am).

He is ranked tenth out of around 50 entrants for the 800m, and if he has anything left he may also to the 4x400m relay.
