YOUNG racing driver Kieran Vernon has increased his lead at the top of the Texaco Havoline Ginetta Championship.

A win in the first race of the day at Croft in north Yorkshire kept Vernon in pole position for honours in his debut Ginetta racing season.

He enjoyed a nail-biting battle with Spencer McCarthy, the pair swapping positions throughout with Clervaux and Tower Bend parts of the course.

Vernon said: "It was so close and a really tough race" said Vernon. "It came down to the second to last corner when Spencer ran wide but it was really good fun."
