STEYNING and Pulborough kicked off the stoolball season with a match at Steyning Cricket Club last night (Monday April 22).

The game originated in Sussex in the 14th Century and is believed to have laid the foundations for the modern day game of cricket, yet it was only last month that Stoolball officially became recognised as a sport.

Today there are between 3,000 and 4,000 players in teams across Sussex, Surrey, Kent and Hampshire.

Click the green button on this page to watch our interview with John and Kay Price of the National Stoolball Association as they explain out the implications of the game now being considered a sport, and watch some players in action.
