STEYNING will play their cricket in Division three next season after just failing to beat St James's Montefiore as their relegation clash ended in a draw.

Dave Kennett scored a half century as Steyning reached 170 all out, and Stillwell's side were wounded when three quick wickets tumbled.

Steying had their hosts at 152/9 and had nearly seven overs to take the last wicket, but St James's successfully put up the shutters to ensure their safety and condemn Steyning to relegation.

"We knew they would settle for a draw and fair play to them because it's what we would have done," commented Stillwell.

"It was a good effort in the field and I think we can be proud of how we played on Saturday, but as for the whole season it is disappointing."
