ANDREA Rufulo went close to victory in Horsham Amateur Boxing Club's first outing of the new season when he boxed at Brighton's Metropole hotel on Saturday.

Rufolo's bout was against D Groom, a Royal Marine boxing for a Naval Forces team that travelled down to the South Coast to compete against a strong Sussex squad. He lost a majority decision that could have gone either way.

Horsham's head coach Lee Cole said: "It was a close fight that we thought he'd won but, looking at the bigger picture, his fitness and stamina held up well.

"Getting him out right at the start of the season will offer valuable experience and help preparations for the Novice Championships in three weeks time."
