PETER Elliott and Rosemary Martin claimed the Geoffrey Walker Bowls at Mannings Heath Golf Club last week.

Seniors and ladies teamed up for their annual St Andrews greensomes competition, which sees both players to tee off before selecting the ball to proceed with, but whoever plays the second shot on the first hole has to do so on all the odd-numbered holes with their partner doing the same on all the even-numbered holes.

On a day of patchy rain, scoring conditions proved tough with the winning score a surprisingly modest 32 points.

Ian Geale and Pat Etheridge, the soon-to-be-retiring captains of their respective sections, had a successful swansong with 30 points for second place and David Gibbs and Lynne Jones took third place on countback with 29.

Most popular performer on the day was Peter Worthington who holed in one on the short fifth and marked the occasion in suitable style by buying the rest of the field their wine at the post-competition lunch.
